We are …

An interfaith group whose purpose is to express through fellowship, cooperation, study, and service the essential unity of all people.

We Exist to …

  • gather for worship and prayer for our community
  • promote the spirit of fellowship and cooperation among the faith communities
  • honor and celebrate the gifts that our diverse religious perspectives bring
  • create a healthy vision in the larger community
  • promote caring in action with God’s people
  • support faith-based learning about community issues
  • and be advocates for justice, love, and peace

We Celebrate Together

We join one another in celebrating religious holidays from our various traditions and we celebrate the diversity of our community promoting equity and inclusion, unity in diversity, as we seek to model the Beloved Community that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr envisioned.

Our monthly gatherings of the Yakima Association of Faith Communities are a times of fellowship as we share with one another across the diversity of our faith traditions, learn about issues facing our communities and coordinate our common work.

What We Do

Promoting Fellowship, Cooperation, Study, Service, Unity, Peace and Justice

Love in Action

We support many vital causes in our community and around the world through joint actions including volunteering, fundraising and in-kind donations, e.g., for our local food and shelter programs, for Ukraine, meals for Rod’s House, school supplies, and relief efforts. We helped sponsor the hugely successful fundraiser for the new Sikh Gurdwara

Advocacy

With our partner organization Faith Action Network and other community partners we advocate for public policy that promotes justice, love, and peace. We host Yakima Advocacy Day and we work on other organizing initiatives that empower our community to make real change for the common good.

Faith Based Education

We sponsor workshops and conferences with various partners to foster faith based learning and understanding of ongoing issues; for example, Faith Over Fear which addressed Islamophobia. Through NAMI FaithNet we learn about mental health. The Power of Eight workshop shared how to set up a healing prayer group.

Moments of Blessing

Whenever an act of violence results in death in Yakima we gather at the site, often with the bereaved family and friends, to share in our grief, reclaim the space for life, community and hope, and recommit ourselves to continue to work justice and peace in our community. We also gather the community for interfaith prayer for peace in times of crises such the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
