Between the Ridges is hosting a 3 1/2 day training in Yakima led by Lisa Davey and Amber Shaffer of the Industrial Area Foundation (IAF) Pacific regional training team. (See their bios below.)

Join us in exploring board-based community organizing where ordinary people come together, build power, discern solutions, and shape the decisions that impact their community, winning real concrete change. This intensive interactive leadership development training will provide concrete tools for relational organizing, listening deeply to our community, analyzing power, moving through discernment, research and taking effective action together, turning overwhelming problems into concrete winnable issues, always reflecting, evaluating, growing and celebrating our life and work together.

Amber Shaffer is a proud Missoula native and enrolled member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of South Dakota, a community organizer and entrepreneur with a background in history and Native American studies. She facilitates trainings with Common Good Missoula and IAF Pacific. She also serves on the Missoula Food Bank’s Anti-Racism Task Force and is the interim Board President for Catalyst Montana. She brings her passion for equity and community to all she does.

Lisa Davey has nearly three decades of community organizing experience and became an IAF organizer in 2019. A fierce proponent for disability rights, women, and healthcare accessibility, she has influenced U.S. national policy, including the Affordable Care Act. A mother, outdoor enthusiast, potter, and lifelong learner, Lisa blends her expertise in communication and rhetoric with on-the-ground organizing, always striving to amplify voices and drive systemic change.

Between the Ridges: Alliance for the Common Good is a member of the IAF Pacific. Founded in 1940, the Industrial Areas Foundation is the largest and longest-standing network of local faith communities, unions and community-based organizations, now doing this work around the globe.
